Today marks the first time in over three weeks that I've had staff duty. For those who don't speak military, staff duty is a one-day position where you sit at a desk in Headquarters, answer the phones and kiss up to your chain of command. When I say one day, I mean one ENTIRE day: the duty lasts 24 hours and you have to stay awake the entire time.
Needless to say, there's a very good chance that I'll be posting drivel tomorrow morning when I get off work, so be forewarned.
If all goes well, I'll be out of the Army one month from now. That, friends, is a reason to celebrate like none other. I've already moved 99% of my personal belongings back to Houston, cleaned all my gear, and am basically living out of a backpack with just enough clothes to get me by until the next time I wash, which is becoming more and more frequent.
Tonight is being spent at Michelle's townhome. There's talk of some drinking games coming down the pipe later on tonight, and I'm holding out hopes for a nice thin-crust pizza order from Domino's. I'll probably stay sober and let everyone else have the good time; someone has to drive, right?
Right now, though, we're watching Me, Myself and Irene, and I totally forgot how funny it is. It's been a long time since I've seen Jim Carrey in a movie that's actually halfway decent, so it's nice to be able to see him in his element.
I have had SUCH a great time this weekend. To top it off, I found out tonight that my other sister Brandy is coming up tomorrow afternoon, so I'll get to see HER as well. I totally needed this weekend, especially since we've got memorial services coming up Monday and Tuesday and I'll have a lot to do for those. Steve has had a great time as well, and he's even mentioned that he might look into moving here once the Army lets him go. I must admit that College Station is a great town with great food, but it doesn't hold a candle to the allure of Colorado Springs for me. I simply cannot wait to get up there, and January cannot come soon enough.
On a side note, I love Vox. I'm definitely sticking with it for my personal blog, but I am getting ready to move the tech blog to a domain name. I'm going to keep using Wordpress, but I need more customization options than I'm afforded with Wordpress.com. I'll announce the move here whenever I've got it set up. I will say that I've already done the theme, and it is hotness, and I can't wait to show it to the world.
Today was uneventful. That's the best way to put it, I think. I got off work at 9:30..in the morning. There was nothing to do, nobody to see, no paperwork to see, so SFC Strayhorn let us go early. Way early. I spent the rest of the day working on my Class A's and cleaning my room. Went to dinner at Chili's with Landrum, then bought tickets to see Pirates of the Carribean II tomorrow at midnight, which I promptly returned when I found out that Radiant is playing in Austin tomorrow night. Landrum and I are going to head to Austin, meet up with some friends, catch up with Levi and the gang from Radiant, and enjoy a great rock and roll show.
I'll sleep this weekend.
